Entry/Exit System EES

Information about the new entry and exit system for our passengers.

What is EES?

The Entry/Exit System (EES) is a new, automated IT system for the digital registration of non-EU citizens and will revolutionize border management in the Schengen Area. Starting from October 12, 2025, it will be gradually implemented across 29 European countries. The system replaces manual passport stamping with biometric capture and electronic monitoring, which both increases security and automates the control of stay durations.

EES at Klagenfurt Airport form 3rd December 2025

At Klagenfurt Airport, the EES control for entry and exit will also be implemented starting December 3rd. The technical infrastructure of the system captures and stores extensive data about the border crossings of non-EU citizens. This includes information such as name, date of birth, fingerprints, biometric data for facial recognition, as well as details about the locations and times of border crossings. This digital registration allows authorities to accurately track who is present in the Schengen Area, when, and where.

Please note that there may be longer waiting times at entry and exit. Make sure to allow extra time for your departure!

Who is affected by EES?

The EES applies to all non-EU citizens traveling to the Schengen Area for a short stay. This includes citizens from countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The system will be used for every border crossing, regardless of whether a visa is required or not."

This means it affects both visa holders and visa-exempt travelers alike.
